73 years ago today! Executive Order 8802

I've always been impressed by this first step towards integration.... the impact it had on my uncle who fought in WWII .... referred to as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945.

WWI was marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust, and the first use of nuclear weapons in combat, it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These made World War II the deadliest conflict in human history.

Big Mama (Martha Belle Smith Sipuel) and Dad Sipuel would have been about 44-47 years old, living in Chickasha, OK when their son Lemuel Travis Sipuel.....and son-in law became enlisted soldiers.

FDR was voted into office from 1940 and again in 1944
(8 yrs = two terms ending in 1948)
...so early in his presidency via 1941..... he took action to increase enlistment... inclusive of men of color!

Today in History

FYI:  WWI was the First World War, was a global war centred in Europe that began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918.
